It's time to begin decorating for the holiday season, and while many of the decorations common to the season may seem to cater to small children, there is a certain beauty to using candles to decorate your home. They can also symbolize many of the different holidays associated with this time of year. Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and other religious celebrations have candles at their center. Here are some ideas for using the beauty and warmth of candles to decorate for this holiday season.

Outdoors

In some communities, luminaries are still used to signify the beginning of the Christmas season. However, luminaries have a tendency to fall over, becoming a bit of a fire hazard. They also need to be re-lit frequently any time there is a slight breeze. Why not use several elegant candle lanterns to light your front walk? The enclosure will make it harder for the wind to blow out the candle, and the lantern will add a sophisticated flair to your decorations. Also, since candle lanterns are specifically designed to hold lighted candles, there is less of a fire-risk to using them.

Centerpieces

Holiday decorations are often placed throughout the home as a welcoming sign that symbolizes warmth and family. Centerpieces are great places to use candles to decorate your home. Candle holders and lanterns add depth and variety to centerpieces by adding visual interest, and changing the height of the candles.

Mantles

Candles add a rustic charm to mantles and fireplaces by creating a warming effect even when the fireplace is not lit. Using decorative candle lanterns and beautiful candlesticks can create the illusion of warmth that comes from having a fire in the hearth. Paired with greenery or other simple decorations such as colored balls, candles can add a touch of whimsy to an otherwise simple space.

Accents

Adding a festive touch to less prominent areas of your home can be a bit more challenging. Too much decoration can cause your home to look gaudy, but the addition of a simple candle lantern can add an elegant touch to an otherwise unnoticed space.

Even if you are not decorating for children, adding a touch of festivity can encourage the holiday spirit in your home. Using candles can be a sophisticated approach to encourage light and warmth throughout the holiday season. As an added bonus, elegant candle lanterns that are used in Christmas decoration can easily be decorated to suit other holidays, or even add beauty to your home year-round.
